235hp or 275hp

I've just bought a new to me '01 f250 4x4 sc powerstoke 6speed was wondering what the stock hp was. From what I have read and seen on most spec sheets for the '01 the auto has 250 and the manual has 275 but my engine says the bhp is 235 at 2600 rpms so I'm a bit confused.

it should be 275hp. does it say 235hp on the orange sticker on the passenger side valve cover?

I went and checked again to make sure of everthing and that I wasn't looking at a different sticker but it is a green sticker (not white like previously stated) and it says that its bhp is 235 at 2600 rpms. The truck only has 145k on it but is it possible that someone had swaped its engine for a '99 (I think those only had 235hp).

thats very strange, maybe, at some time, something happened to the original valve cover and one from a salvage 99 or 00 was put on it....dono

on edit. it may have had an engine swapped in form an earlier truck as well (as you suggested)...that would kind of suck.

you need to try to get the serial number of the engine and we should be able to track it down from that..

heres another thought, the engines in the 99.5-2003 are the same engines the increase in power was accomplished by different PCM tuning. so if a 99.5-00 engine was put into your truck and it retained the factory PCM (there would be no reason to change it) than it should still be putting out 275 hp....

well that would be a relief but is there some chance that they could have put an early '99 in it or is the setup different for that verses the '01

Dude - that sounds like a good thing! Would mean forged rods, instead of possibly having PMR's in an '01 motor!!

Possibly, somebody help me out here. I don't feel like peeking through a small hole on the driver side of the block to see if I have forged or PMRs. I will do it because now I gotta know, but surely there has to be a build date or VIN/sequence # that would reveal this. Anybody

I wasn't meaning that he early '99 was a good thing to have, I was reffering to it in a negative way because that would mean that my engine may still not be producing the 275hp that it should be.

Also you can tell by the build date on the sticker on the inside of your door. If it says something like 08/1998-12/1998 then you have an early '99 and after 1/1999 is the '99.5
