2000 7.3 Tuner/Programmer

I know this a personal preference sort of question, but I haven't looked into that much. Whats a good tuner for the 7.3 stock? I just want to get some more power out of it and some fuel mileage if I can. Thanks for any information, take care

Most people on this site will tell you that a DP Tuner is the way to go.

They are a site sponsor and from what I've seen their tuners are top notch.

Before you do anything to your truck tuner/programer wise, you should upgrade your exhaust system. If you go with a custom tuner you should also get guages so that you can moniter your system to help prevent catastrophic engine failure due to high EGH's and such.

I've found that if you just drive with some care... keep your foot out of the throttle and don't do a lot of stop and go you can get reasonable fuel economy. I have personally gotten 22 mpg on the highway by driving 55 mph and keeping the speed constant on a 100 mile trip.

You'll find plenty of info by searching previous threads but what's the point of a forum if you can't ask these types of questions? Even if it has already been done 100 tmes before.

There a a few tuners out there that will give you what you want. But what you want is going to determine what you need before you "Plug n play". Straight stock, you can get away with an 80 Econo. Doesn't sound exciting but you will love the difference. Anything more than that, definately get your exhaust opened up a little, intake opened and get a set of gauges to keep an eye on things. If you keep it to 60 or 80 econo, then you will anjoy the extra without too much worry about tearing it apart if you don't push it. Just keep it to what you have been doing now and you should be fine. It just common sense.

I personally have a DP Tuner, but there is also Tony Wildman and a couple of others. Just a matter of your taste and $$.

DP, 80e may not be too exciting to Billy Bob, but this old man's heart couldn't
handle much more. It's like driving a new truck. The tow and decel tunes are great if you tow a lot.

Oh I didnt say it wasn't exciting, but that it may not "sound" exciting. I love my 80E. My wife always asks, "Does it always have to feel like we are launching when you start off?"

Ummmm YUP!!!

My wife didn't know anything had changed. She went out to move the truck so she could get her car out of the garage. Took me the rest of the day to get the rubber off the driveway. The deer in the headlights look, priceless.
