i have a 2002 F150. we have had charging problems, we have had the battery checked for voltage and draw test check ok. We put a new alternator on and doesn't seem to charge. took alternator off and had it tested at auto store checks out good.any sugestions?
You must have a bad wire connection and/or ground between the alternator and battery somewhere. Clean all your connections very good including your metal mounting points.
There is a 175 amp large fuse between the alternator and the battery.
There is a small inline fuse between the alternator and the large fuse.
The big fuse on the fire wall is major protection.
The small 20 amp fuse powers the altenator regulator circuit.
One of them might be blown.
To see this circuit, look in the Haynes manuel, page 12-17 at bottom of the page.
Be sure the plugup is in place and no pins are bent over.
Good luck.
measure 12.5 volts across the battery terminals. startup truck and measure voltage again to be 14.2 to 14.8 volts. If it goes up, the problem is not the alternator.
