just dropped the old f-250 to be looked at. the brakes are warped pretty good. the front end is real loose, plus both front springs are shot.
so i'm getting a est. first thing tomorrow and know more by then. its been along time coming though. the truck only has 65k on it but half of that was on crappy gravel roads.
i'll update when i know more, what i do know is it wont be cheap!
Is that the orange truck with the plow? Do you think having the plow is causing alot of the front end troubles? Plow trucks take a beating, even if you are nice to them.
yes my orange '91...not really, i think the trucks pervious life of a oil feild truck really killed the front end. i only plow my drive and about 3 other family members so it doesnt see alot of use.
one spring is pretty weak so we are wanting to replace both front springs also. i do think the weight of the plow has sped up the sagging of the front springs.
i got the truck in '99 with 54k miles on her..today she has 65k miles so that tells you how many miles she gets on her. but it'll be nice to have tight steering and no sagging in the frontend. also i'm so sick of the brakes haha
all u-joints are bad, a few actualy missing part of them, front end, drive shaft's..every u-joint
tie-rod ends are shot...very shot
front calipers are bad, rotors can be turned, pads
e-brake cables are bad drums, shoes..everything out back is bad
steering gear box is puking fluid needs to be replaced
shocks are loose, all 4 but still good so they will just need to be tightned.
i think thats all of it...$2600 all said and done. i was expecting maybe 1500-1900 this was alittle more then expected. he started on it today so we'll see when its done.
wow, thats crazy. Word of advice though, after spending all this money, I would just go ahead and replace the front rotors also. once you turn them they will warp out again much faster.
yeah i kinda figured that. i'm trying to get alittle better price on the steering box, when i do i'll just pickup some new rotors.
the other thing i forgot is e-brake cables, apparently they got cought on somthing and are destroyed.
luckly this is a guy i trust. we've used him for about 10 years. small shop 2 man outfit and they have allways done us right. i feel safe knowing it would have been alot more somewhere else.
