Well, I picked up a 65 f100 and have been spending the past few weeks debugging it and have most things fixed.! now i've owned a lot of cars but have never ran across this before, no matter what way you use the signal lever{outside lights work correctly} the right indicator blinks for both left or right and the left indicator never comes on, I have to pull the wheel off to fix a non canceling turn signal switch, but was wondering if anyone has seen this so I can narrow my search. thanks in advance for any info or clues! Scott
yup! its a custom cab with the sweep speedo...man, I feel like a rookie!
thanks for the info, that makes my problem a , well, no problem! another thing off the list!

Gets em every time. It is one of those WTF was ford thinking.....LOL Welcome to FTE.
I got some under dash issues myself to get on now the weather is no longer hitting those 100 degree days and that is one of them.
So...as I read the OP's comments, he says the right indicator blinks, but the left never comes on. And you say that is correct??
WTF was Ford thinking?? I know you said that, but, looking at the rear of the dash, aren't the top holes for the blinkers? There seem to be two? I also notice the right seems to be green while the left looks like it is red. Hmmm...could one be the hi-beam indicator and the other the blinker indicator? I don't usually drive the old girl at night, so I have not noticed.
Edit: Yep, went out and checked left is hi-beam. I guess if it blinks, OP has a different problem altogether! Maybe his TS light is just plugged into wrong hole ;-)
While we are on the topic, my '66 custom cab has a 3rd dash illumination wire/socket and I can't figure out why. I obviously don't use it but does anyone know why there would be 3 wires when the sweep cluster only requires 2?
I took my '65's dash apart a couple of days ago to replace a bad blinker bulb (I have the round speedo style dash) and after I replaced the bulb (as well as the others while I was in there), things started going whacko. With the lights off, the turn signal bulbs work normally, but when I turn on the parking lights or head lights, all of the bulbs (blinkers, dash lights, hi-beam light) come on and pulsate...very wierd.
Everything was fine before I messed with it. I did notice that even the blinkers were a little goofy until I actually put the entire thing back together and all the dash panel screws were in. Maybe a bad ground or something??
Yeah that is a bad gound. Attaching a dedicated ground from the steering column support that the speedo cable runs through stopped the issue on my 64 and the former neighbors 66. Best thing I found is to use a 14g wire with bullet connectors to allow the ground to be pulled off without too many hickups.
64f-100, as oldharley mentioned, likely a poor ground. Purchased an extra ground strap at local NAPA store and attached to back of metal portion of the panel and the other to a convenient location on the steering column bracket, as mentioned make sure ground surfaces are clean, and add additional length. Added couple extra ground straps in various locations, and applied a small dab of dielectric grease to exterior connectors and the electrical ground contact surfaces, seems to slow down the electrostatic corrosion. Suggest also check the connections at the constant Voltage Regulator, small metal box on the back of the cluster. Regulates the voltage to instruments and gauges and oscillates from between 0-9 volts. Not sure if any help, posting pic of disassembled CC cluster.
The topic on having the CC panel restored came up and wonder if any members have actually had their's done. Seen the repro's in catalogs and ebay, close but IMO, nothing like original. Had a CC cluster done a few years ago by 'qualitymustang' out of Tx., who did an outstanding job but apparently no longer in business. Looking for a source to have a spare redone and would appreciate if any Member(s) who have had theirs done, and please with results. Thank you!
You might want to also check the connections at the Constant Voltage Regulator, i'ts the small metal box on the back of the instrument panel; upper middle in the pic oldharley posted. The CVR should be secured to back of the panel and contact surfaces should be clean, with these plastic CC clusters a good ground is important.
I restored five CC sweep units and had them re vacuum metalized, refurbished the speedometer and installed NOS outboard gauges. People bitched it was too much money so i wont do any more.
The cc reproductions are from ford molds by Dennis Carpenter. Look just like the ones that came new but with a better plating process.
