My drivers side power seat works well in 4 of the adjusters, but as of this afternoon the back and forth movement seems to be real jumpy. Quick look this evening didnt produce anything that was binding this movement, but it seems to jump foreward from tooth to tooth on the gear. Smoother acting when moving it back, but when moving foreward it is very jumpy. Logic tells me it is not the switch or the motor, unless there is an internal gear that would cause this. Thanks for any ideas on this.
Not sure on your specific problem, but I had one of the three motors go on my '03's seat. Started out making al ittle noise and shortly after that crapped out. I replaced it yet still didn't find anything bound up when I took the old assembly apart. I did find what appeared to be adjusting screws designed to keep the rotary gears in good alignment with the lead screw. Take a look at the motor and see if you can adjust the noise away. The motors are sacrificial as the gears and adjustment screws are plastic.
Same thing happened on my 98 Expy. Eventually, the seat track jammed in the far back position. Dealer diagnosis was "jammed seat track". Not covered under extended warranty, as my Ford ESP warranty covered PS motors, BUT not the track mechanism.
However, the seat track/motor mechanism is 1 part number so the entire mechanism had to be changed....could not buy just the track. Bought new motor/track mechanism online for approx $275 and swapped it out myself..no problems. Dealer wanted over $600.
I guess they got more gentle with the newer models, all three motors are available individually for the 03. I didn't look at the track since it wasn't my issue, but I assume it must be it's own p/n as well.
