trans mount

The bolts on the transmission mount that go into the crossmember are lose how do I tighten them? I try to snug them up and they just spin, whats the deal, I never did replace my trans mount but can they also be "worn" even if that rubber isnt cracked?

id have to look again but im pretty sure i was able too get a wrench on the top of mine (maybe its different) ill look tommorow. I do have to check all the other bolts on the crossmember every so often cause they rattle loose no mater how much i tighten em. I just doubled up nuts on all the ones i could reach ( i know thats not your question, but it was something i ran into when i replaced my tranny)

On my '88, the bottom bolts that go through the crossmember are studs, nuts go on them to hold the mount in place. There are holes in the top that bolts go through that screw into the tranny.
I'd say if you try tightening the bottom nuts, and the studs spin, its probably messed up. If the bolts that go up into the tranny are spinning, get a longer bolt and put a nut on top to hold it tight.

thanks for your post, yeah the bolts on the top of the transmission mount that go into the transmission have bolt heads on them I think they were somewhere around 18mm I cant remember, but the bottom part of the mount where the bolt holes go into the cross there is no head on them they are carriage bolts so I cant grab them, but the nuts that are on them are loose, I can turn the hole entire carriage bolt assembly it just keeps rounding out, also again if anyone knows can they be worn out even though they are not cracked? if its fine its not $20 I want to spend, the steering wheel vibrations are gone but I do have a floorboard one that I have learned to live with
