Anyone have an idea what the factory spec on radiator to fan clearance is on a 360 2V? Just curious. Mine has 6-7 inches between them and only modest pull thru the radiator while at idle. Runs cool down the road, will hit high side normal around town in stop and go traffic, but doesnt overheat. Lookiing for a fan shroud now.
Heres' the info:
Fan spacer= 2.5 inches
Fan hub to rad= 4 inches
Fan pitch = 3 inches
Rad on my rig: 3-row, 19" x 26", dual flange. Rad is mounted on its front flange.
According to the LMC catalog, non-HD 4WD 360s and 390s would use the same radiator (PN 43-3016).
Well i have a spacer on it, but i do not think it is right. I am looking for the fan shroud now, got calls out. Mine is a 28.5 by 19 radiator. Took the condenser off and suddenly the truck is running reliably cooler, flow went up by a good measure, but i would love to see more room to spare on the gauge.
Evenly spaced anything will generate a pitch to it, that is why good tires always have tred blocks that go up and down in size. Poorly designed off road tires get "tire whine" at highway speeds. So when looking for tires ALWAYS get the ones with tred blocks that change sizes. The others will drive you out of the cab.
Same theory for the fan blades. They are balanced, but the opening will knock the "fan whine" out from under the hood. It also give you some room to use to remove the fan bolts on some models.
Question: did Ford use thermal fan clutches on the Dents or were they all solid mount fans?
According to Flex-A-Lite, the uneven blade spacing is for noise reduction.
And another questions related to this thread, what's the difference btwn non-AC and AC fan shrouds? Deeper on the latter?
It shouldnt, the radiator is mounted on the rearmost flange, at least on mine. The condenser is actually mounted on the unused forward flange. So, the radiator doesnt move on my application at least. I just have to find a 28.5 in width fan shroud.
Another thought, these fan shrouds cant all be bad. Why would anyone take them off a vehicle?

I've never heard of anyone choosing to take one off. I know they can brake pretty easily, however. I bet that's the only reason they are removed- because they are broken and no one wants a fragged shroud near that fan.
When your clearance is correct it's a pretty tight fit in there- I have to put the shroud over the fan before I install the radiator. Cutting corners by either trying to to radiator work without removing the shroud or even reinstalling out of sequence could easily cause cracks or breakage.
When I got my F100 the shroud was already busted up and is held together by this strips of steel riveted through the shroud.
