I bought my '05 F250 about a year and a half ago. I installed a MBRP stainless turbo back exhaust about a year ago, but left the cat installed because at that time it still had warrenty left. Now the warrenty is up and I am considering buying the cat delete pipe and removing my cat. I am just curious to see if there is an advantage (other than sound) of removing the cat. By the way, there are no emissions checks in my county.
Second question is about the SCT programmer. I want to buy one mostly for better fuel economy. What gains can I really expect to get? I know they claim 2mpg better or so, but is that realistic?
DUDE................the best advantage that I found was lowering my EGT's all the way around. I went straight pipe 4" all the way back....it can get noisy but.....its not that bad.
You guys are honestly serious that noone claims LOWER EGTS? My truck is now straight piped but before I removed the CAT my EGT's would increase so much faster on acceleration. Now that I do not have a CAT they still obviously rise but at a slower rate.
True ANY increase in exhaust flow will help egt's...
the biggest bottle neck is the 100lb muffler !!!
about 60k miles ago I put a Walker BTM flow thru muffler on my 05 6oh and no other changes including leaving the cat on....
lowered egt's on average about 200 degrees..
and allowed the addition of the sct without worries of excessive egt's...
REALLY helped with the 1\8th mile time.... but not the mpg too much...
you will get a lil boost in mpg but you will never be able to justify the cost of a programmer just for mpg
