Have any modded their cat by removing the innards, and reinstalling for a stock look but with lower back pressure / better exhaust flow? I am ready to do it, but am wondering "IF" others have, and their results.
2005 F350 PSD here, and have Calif smog checks. Looks like the Magnaflow replacement cat is illegal here, not for sale, and costly if avail, etc. Cat delete is not kosher here also, hence mods to the stock cat...
Will also be fabbing a straight pipe for installing at the same time.
The only problem with "gutting" the cat is you've just ruined an expensive piece of hardware. I'm sure I've asked this question before, but I don't remember how CA does their emission testing. If they stick a sniffer in the tailpipe & you've gutted the cat...your busted. I'd get a delete pipe and run it 364 days a year; stick the cat back in for your emission testing day then pull it back out.
My cat is sitting on the shelf in the shop if/when the day comes that I need it again.

Exactly what he said , get a delete and bolt it back on when needed.
