Seems a trivial issue...a simple cup holder within reach of the driver....yet it's a somewhat bigger issue when the 'Slurpee' you have clenched between your legs gets flung on the floor while your turning a corner in traffic while trying to hang third gear!

I've owned and drove numerous vehicles pre-drink-holder era. Spilling much coffee and soda. However, I've been driving automatic transmissions(aside from an occasional jaunt in my womans MGB...which has a cupholder), and hanging my drinks from factory cupholders for like 5 years now.

Last manual trans vehicle I owned was a 1992 F250 diesel. It was virtually a twinkie to this F250...excepting year model and engine.

I don't recall too many 'drink catastrophies'. I do recall ruining the factory stereo by setting a waxed cup Love's drink up on the square part of the dash on a hot day. Was working on some machinery, and when I got back in the hot truck, the soda cup had sweated enough moisture to run into the dash and crater the radio! I remember a tragic Route 44 Sonic soda disaster too.

I was busy today, and didn't get a chance to call the local Ford house to check on availability of the 'front of seat cupholder'. I figure it's likely obsolete, but who knows?

I got a JC Whitney catalog for truck stuff in the mail a few weeks ago. The one thing that got my eye was auxillary door panels that had cup holders molded to it. From what I could tell, it would mount to area that is left vacant on the XL model doors. There would be map pocket panels there on the higher trim models. The cup holder part would be right where the map pocket is. They had the lentgh and width indicated, but I didn't get a chance to measure if they would fit in my truck before the old lady pitched the book. And I can't find them online on the website.

All I have in the cab is a cheap console thing that I have setting between the shifter and seat, right where the XLT cup holders would be. Aside from the occassional sliding of the unit and not being able to shift with a Wendy's Biggy soda pop in there, works ok. But I wish I could find the ones from JC Whitney.

i built one out of plywood to fit over the trans tunnel inbetween the seat and shifter, where the xlt would have the stock holder. But anyways it works great, just used a piece of cardboard and made a template to contor the tunnel. It holds to normal sized drinks and the hole in the middle for the fat boy drinks but it does not slide around and holds my drinks without spilling them all over.

But think of this...I own a car, that in 1987, sold new for $68,000. You would think paying that amount of money for a Mercedes 560SL, that they would put cup holders in the dang car! Nope, not even a place to put an aftermarket one in.

I feel y'alls pain, but it's an easy fix. I bought one of those consoles that fits in the middle of the bench seat that has cupholders for the truck.

I just bought a 91 F-350 4x4 a few weeks ago and noticed the lack of cupholders. At the risk of losing my mancard I had to put my son's carseat in the front seat of the truck. Lo and behold...the thing has a pull out cupholder and snack tray in the carseat! Its been a lifesaver and I havent had to buy a cheap console or aftermarket cupholder (because I couldn't find any decent ones). And the thing stays put because you can strap it down in the seat. I have the pull down armrest in my benchseat and can even put 2 empties between the other side of the pull down and the carseat.

Works great and gives me an excuse to keep the car seat in the truck! lol

I would think, driving an EB truck and all, that I wouldn't have this problem. My GF prefers to ride in the center seat, which means I have no cup holders. In the seat configuration, you can stick a water bottle/ soda/beer can between the driver and center seets pretty well. As longs as it's not in anything that will spill easily, it get's me by.

DOOR STORAGE RACKS - JCWhitney

JC Whitney calls them "door racks"

I too use a boot, or often Ill just set it on the middle seat and just wrap the middle seatbelt around it and it wont go anywhere...only works for cans and smaller cups, taller, more topheavy drinks go in the boot lol. Im gonna build a small hump hugger to hug the tranny tunnel one day, the GF doesnt offen sit in the middle anymore but I will mock them up to where she can still have some footroom. Funny thing is she gets nervous when I leave open drinks in the middle (ive had too many wet-butt experiences thanks to Burger King large cokes) and will hold them for me if she rides with me lol.

I found a really nice console that sits in the middle of the bench seat. Its contoured to sit there too. Very well made, nice and heavy. It holds a lot of my junk, it has a place for two cups up to 44 ounces and will hold 52 ounce ones if you shove on them a little plus it is a handy place to rest my elbow when driving. The only problem I have found with it is it has to be moved if I want in the back seat area. My truck is a 1990 F150 XLT Super Cab. I got it at a yard sale for a buck.
