I have two sets of heads. Is one set better than the other? Casting numbers are C8EAH and D2TEAA. Both look good and are on running engines. Just looking to see if one set is better than the other and pros and cons of each. Thanks
The D2TE-AA heads came off a truck motor. They should have provisions for emissions ports. They are more for low end grunt rather than horsepower. They should have hardened valve seats for unleaded gas.
The D2TE-AA heads will have hardened seats, and are the only ones to have had it done. MAYBE there were service heads with earlier casting numbers that had it done too, but who knows... The D2TE heads definitely do. Whether or not the hardening is still there after all this time, that's another "maybe". The valves smacking the seats removes the hardening over time.
The only emissions ports that MIGHT be on those heads are in the exhaust ports for the air injection. I've seen D2TE heads without the holes, but they are easy enough to plug.
Besides the hardening, the C8AE-H and the D2TE-AA heads should be exactly the same in terms of port size, combustion chamber, valves, everything.
I'd still go for the D2TE heads if it were me, and I was just going to slap them onto another motor.
