now looking at this.
Custom 1977 Ford F150 - Feature Turuck - Sport Truck Magazine
if you look at the suspension on this truck it says "Modified DJM I-beam drop beams for a 6-inch drop"
could one not "modify" the stock ones by welding on and boxing out the tops to accomplish the same drop as the DJM ones?

"The team reconstructed the factory I-beams and relocated the radius arm mounts to drop the front of the truck 6 inches, before building custom airbag and shock mounts."

I guess my answer would be a YES, but why does it say they used a modified JDM I beam?

im not well versed on the strength of steel and what can be made.

This sounds like what your talking about. I found these one day on car domain or something like that. Any way I wouldn't trust it at all, plus the bottom of the beam is below the scrub line of the rim. Meaning if he has a flat the suspension is going to dig into the street because it's lower than the rim.

I'm sure Jamey Jordan's truck was professionally done, no hack job. I don't know exactly what they did to the beams. I believe they took out the rise to the spindle, the part that makes it a drop I-beam, and fabricated a longer rise to give it more drop. Again I'm not 100% sure on that but I think thats right.

I was thinking one with the skill could make one out of 4x4 steel tube, something like this:
this is not in ANY way accurate nor am I a suspension guy by any means, just put what I had in my head on "paper"

IDK how low that is but yeah I dont want to scrape any and I would be putting on a little bigger wheels also so that should help somewhat..
