I have an 05 FX4 w/ the center console shifter. The light showing the shift lever location (ie: p,r,d...) is out. I looked in my owners manual for a fuse location refering to this but have'nt found anything. Any ideas?

I have the same problem, along with the light out in the dash at the odometer/outside temp......anybody????
I had the same issue with my '04 FX4. You need to pop off the chrome cover around the shifter. The light is the same as for your tag. It does not take long to change out but it is a pretty tight area to work in.

Thanks mcassel, any tips on popping out the chrome bezel out without breaking it or cracking it?
Open the center console take a regular screw driver pop off the top which has the cup holders. From there you will see to clips that hold the chrome trim around the shifter. Take that off and you will see a little light bulb. Just twist it and it comes out. Its the same light bulb as the license plate lights. You will need to take a pair of pliers probably to pull it out. Be careful not to break it and then replace with a new one. Then put it all back together. Its really easy to do.

It was quite easy to fix the shift light.
Now for the odometer backlight, what is the part number for the odometer light?
The Sylvania part number for the shift light was 68 if anyone wants to know.
