I know the 2011's are hardly out yet and are gaining great momentum, but I can't help but think about what's in store for 2012. I'm sure Ford already has their ideas about what to add/change/delete for 2012, but figured it couldn't hurt to post some of our own ideas in the event we can influence Ford's design team . I'm sure we won't all agree on these changes, but curious what others would like to see. On top of changes already coming with job 2 which I like (head rest DVD players, heated rear window), here is my list of feature/product enhancements:
- Nav design is old (not saying it's bad, just needs a re-fresh). Ford is beginning to introduce the Sony deck combo with a much cleaner looking Nav screen (2011 Explorer, 2011 Edge as examples) with integrated controls for heating, A/C and other functions. Could make a nice upgrade/addition to the Lariat ultimate package
- Add interior LED lighting that is starting to appear in more Ford vehicles (cup holders, door sills, door levers etc). This again could be a nice addition to the Lariat ultimate package
- Kill the two tone leather, at least the current design. There is something about that middle pseudo camo looking texture that hasn't grown on me yet. I know others like it, just my opinion. I personally prefer a good looking single tone leather seat.
- Remove the tailgate step from the Lariat Ultimate package. This can be ordered stand alone for those who really want it
- Offer factory HID lights
Obviously a lot of these suggestions are geared towards those who are after more premium features, which many on this board seem to be after with as many Lariat Ultimate packages as I've seen. I also don't think this is a huge departure from what's currently offered, it's just more in line with the technology advancements in other Ford products. I personally think Ford has a great edge over the competition right now, but they won't be able to rest for very long before the others catch up.
OK, I know this is going to sound rather shallow, but as a 2011 owner I hope they don't do anything too neat for a long time. Unlike almost everytime I buy a computer, I don't want to say, "Ahh, I should have waited one more year."
That said, I started my truck shopping with the 2011 Ford and thought these are some really neat creature comforts besides a great new power train. I then looked at the 2010 Dodge and came out of there saying, Wow, Ford might have been playing catch-up on the creature comforts.
This is a small one but the one thing Ford could add that Dodge has is:
- Heated steering wheel.
I would probably use it semi-regularly in the winter.
Ability to reprogram the computer for miles til empty. seems a common request. (and easy to do)..
Headlights (as already mentioned), I live out in the country and come home from business travel at 1am usually.. that last 20 miles of 2 lane road in the dark is scary with the stock headlights.. so far I haven't had a deer step out, but there have been plenty on the sides of the road.. don't see em til way too late..
We are probably going to get a used '12-13 in 5-6 years....but i would appreciate:
-HID lights (at least as an option)
-one-touch windows...all four
-sleeker grill design( the current one is fine, but the 05-07 and 08-10 look much better)
-more customization for the trip computer: most people are computer savvy enough to navigate around
-floor storage(like dodge): doesn't need to be huge
Things that my BMW(2004) has that would be neat:
-when you put into reverse the passenger side mirror tilts down automatically: makes it easier not to hit the curb when you parallel park
-when you park the car if you leave the turn signal engaged the park lights (front and back) will stay on for the selected side: nice feature when you park on the side of back country roads.
Anybody know what extras are coming with job 2 ? I am going to order my truck late November. I spoke with a Ford engineer, who said that job 2 would probably be available then, she said that it would have some "cool electronic stuff" but didn't elaborate.
- complete LED lighting (singals, brake lights etc)
- what happened to the little digital screen on the TBC?
- oil pressure gauge
- volt meter gauge
- auto up and down front windows
- one tone seats
- HID lights
- integrate the climate controls with the nav
- have climate control for the back seats
- available rear air bags
- bigger fuel tank
im probably missing a lot of things id want BUT after they make the dream truck
dont make anything for a long long long time so we can enjoy our trucks
with out having to worry about new stuff haha
1. The option of a manual transmission for those who want one.
2. A off-road version with factory lift and so on... like Dodge Powerwagon.
Otherwise I like the truck more than the competition hands down!
2) I agree there. A couple more inches would be great (giggity). Just to get it up (giggity giggity) higher. It kind of looks like a 4x2 the way is sits now.
