Navigation While driving Solved

Google: Ford LockPick. Installed mine yesterday. Nav on the fly. You can lock rear camera on for hitching trailer. DVD while driving if you want. GReat product. Plug and Play.

Although your poll says that, it is biased by the fact that enthusiasts visit this site. In that segment of the market you will find more technical and frankly more truck savvy purchasers who would be interested in the availability of a manual. The general public is not that interested. Get in, turn the key and go. If the take rate was actually 33%, Ford would have never eliminated the manual option. I have a million miles in manual trucks so I would drive one if the deal was right. I would never buy a new one with a manual though. Good luck with your quest to get the manual back. I did see your smiley.

You are right rickatic. We are more "truck savvy, technical buyers" here on FTE, as compaired to the general public. Thanks for wishing me good luck on my quest. However, I doubt it will ever go anywhere.

I would like to see the hidden steps as part of the Lariat package. They drop lower than the fixed steps, making it easier for my 5'4" Mrs to get in and out. Besides which, they are cool !!

And stats from a web poll that requires you to place a vote to see results is hardly the same as stats derived from actual truck sales.

And people that are not interested in a manual may not even look at a thread about bringing back the manuals, let alone vote. IMHO asking random people on the street would give better data.

I had that option in my 2003 Yukon XL which was nice.

I think the bottom section of the 2011 SD works pretty well at it.
terrible idea. what about when your trying to back up a driveway or back a trailer up? mirror down will make more hassle then anything.

I have to agree with oreocreaming on that one. Besides, that is what the lower spot mirror is for.

I have the tilt down mirrors in my Enclave, it is great for backing out of my driveway. I have to back up a hill then it flattens out, without the tilt turned on I can't see anything but sky. But that car does not have lower spot mirrors and sometimes I turn it off to back up in normal areas. It is a good option on some cars, but I would rather the my money go elsewhere.

I agree... I have two other vehicles with the auto-tilt rear-views and they are a PITA more than anything.. sure you can see the ground but it impacts the rest of the rearward view.

Now add a feature like the full surround cameras found on the Lexus LX570 SUV... That would be slick and definitely useful.

Maybe even forward facing proximity sensors (Also found on various Lexus vehicles).

I suppose this might be getting too fancy for the ol' Fords, but it sure would be nice in a perfect world.

How about these options.......

- Recline to bed option (need ability to sleep in truck when time is available during lull's in plowing operations). I have a hard time with my lower legs (below the knee) cocked to the floor while the seat is reclined. Can't we make a total flat surface to sleep.
- Portion of back seat as a desk, computer, etc. Captains chair can rotate to desk (truck must be in PARK of course.
- Make in dash Mr. Coffee maker. Spot for "Ford Cup", refill button, press and there you have it. Maybe a spot for bottled water of choice to reload coffee maker, etc.

Rear view camera on back of cab to aid hitching gooseneck or fifth wheel.
Heated rear seats.
Electric locking/unlocking of the tailgate with the key fob.
Slide out extensions on sun visors for when needed.
Rear doors that open from inside when locked w/o having to unlock; child locks cover the times when you don't want them to open.
Instead of rear horizontal sliding window; a full width rear cab window that slides up and down.
Factory storage in sides of pickup bed.

Bob - Did you know the entire visor slides horizontally on the bar and therefore does not need the little plastic extenders? I really like this new way of extending the visor compared to all the other contraptions that have been tried. It's kind of like a "why didn't I think of that" idea.

have the same on my 08 F350.. wish they had a little (3x5 card size pull out extension.. cause all the way out there is this little gap that seems to be where the sun comes into my eyes..

I keep a 3x5 card in the truck just for this purpose..
stick it into the window channel against the glass
