I have a 1971 429 and C6 in my truck. I recently bought a slightly used 2,400 stall torque converter for it. The crank pilot bottoms out before the studs go through the flex plate. Can anyone tell me what is going on here?
I was attempting to do some research just by comparing converters on Summit Racing and picked up on the diameter differences but here's a couple questions for you. I see now that the crank pilots on the original and stall are different lengths as well as diameters.
1) Does each diameter always correspond to a specific length of the crank pilot?
2) Does each diameters always correspond to specific engines or years of engines? Or are they arbitrarily made?
I have since found another used converter that fits a 302. I emailed the guy and asked him to provide the pilot diameter. Do you think it will fit?
