What 460 dizzy?

Anyone recommend a good distributer to run on a fresh '77 460 rebuild(in a '79 truck) .... mild cam, 8.5:1 compression....... i'm keeping factory coil and spark box, but dont want the dizzy to be the weak point. gonna add new plug wires as well...

Thanks

From what I have picked up across the forum is you should be just fine with the Dura-Spark II ignition system. Why make things more complicated, especially if your going to keep the majority of the OE parts anyway?

It's important to check the dizzy gear for position on the shaft. Measure the blocks depth and set it accordingly on the shaft and use plenty of Isky Rev-Lube or equivalent on the cam & gear. There is a good write up on the subject on 460ford.com

Use a D.U.I. distributor from Performance Distributors. The DS II is a good system, I prefer the GM style HEI. Only one wire to hook up. DONT listen to the bs people will say about the GM distributor burning up because of heat problems. That is PURE B.S.! I have used them in MANY different makes and models and have NEVER had on burn up. I have had more DS II modules fail because of heat. Good Luck.

I would second the Dura-saprk II, That is what I have in my 69 460 in my 77 F250, with some easy upgrades it is as good as a HEI. Now the HEI is also a good one. I use a 8 pin control module on my Jeep with a Dura-spark and a GM tfi type coil. The Ford tfi coil gets way to hot with constant 12 volts. As a Chevy motor guy (first love sorry ford but I do love my truck) The GM HEI is a great dist. Never hear of one burning up, but the coil in the cap sucks and I am glad they did away with that, but the ROTOR in the HEI sucks big time. I have never seen so many burn through the thin, cheezy plastic they are made of.

That is VERY true. You can upgrade the DS II and remove the control module completely...check this out:
