The vented kick panels were only 80-81 correct? When I was at the junkyard a couple of days ago I saw three trucks with them, guess I should go back and get them.
Don't know when I will get back there, hopefully someone will give me a junk car to take out there soon to give me an excuse to go. This time I'm bringing some raid wasp killer, got stung pulling off an autolite carb. And almost got stung pulling off a tailgate, I was faster that time Sometimes going into the far back weeds to find parts results in pain, but the parts are soo worth it.
I'll have to keep an eye out for a set myself then, if they're hard to find....but what's strange, I have a 1984 F-Series brochure (also have the matching owners manual somewhere...) that shows that the kick panel vents were still available later on. Shows them in the overview of features.
Well I noticed last night that I'm getting a hurricane worth of airflow out of the passenger side vent duct, but like nothing out of the driver side one. I stuck my arm up inside as far as I could (requires one to be a contortionist....lol) and didn't find anything clogging it, and prior to that I stuck a bent clothes hanger in there too, finding nothing. How exactly is the ducting for the vents set up? Does it run along each side of the cab from the cowl? Would spraying it out with water help anything? With the covers back in place, of course? lol
FE,my 82 parts truck had them. They actually don't show up in my 80 brochure, and I don't think they're in the 81 catalog either.Maybe they became an option after then.I haven't seen them too much round here, but then again I don't really look for them.
This guy had a great idea to put in relays for the HVAC blower motor, so at the flip of a switch he'd get full battery voltage and ground to the motor. From what he says, in stock trim, the blower motor sees about 10.5V on high with the engine running and max AC on. After his mod, it's getting over 13V.
I am seriously wanting to do this. Maybe it'll help with how when I turn the blower on high, it pulls down a lot on the charging system even with the motor running.
Just thought I'd share something I think is pretty neat. I am rebuilding and adjusting up a carb for a guy and made two of these for me in place of payment. Pretty neat air cleaner nut for my daily drive I think. It's a speedy bird emblem off the early Falcons that he milled and polished, drilled and tapped for the air cleaner stud.. Now if I can get his carb to look and work as good.
Those kick panel vents were only used in non-a/c trucks. Technically speaking, they were standard items, but were deleted by ordering a/c.
To find the kick panels with the vents, you need to find a non-a/c cab. This isn't to say that all trucks with an a/c have the vents deleted. My 1980 F150 has dealer added a/c, and they didn't remove the vents.
I haven't pulled my cowl panel or the kick panels to see how much crud has built up in them over the last 30 years, but I do occasionally get a leaf or 2 blowing in thru the vents....
I checked the other day and there wasn't anything blocking the vent duct...I guess it's just one of those things. I have been getting a leaf or two blowing out one of the vents on occasion (not sure which, I'm not looking when it happens lol) though, I guess it's from the middle part of the cowl where some junk has settled, but not where it blocks the ducts.
