Removal
  1. Remove the high-pressure oil pump. For additional information, refer to Oil Pump in this section.
  1. Position the high-pressure oil pump in a suitable vise.
  1. NOTE: It is not necessary to replace the high-pressure oil pump when replacing the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter.
NOTE: If the high-pressure oil pump and the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter has an assembly support bracket, remove and discard the assembly support bracket and all attaching hardware.
Remove the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter and jam nut fitting from the high-pressure oil pump.
    • Discard the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter.
    Installation
    1. NOTICE: To prevent engine damage, match the new O-rings with the O-rings removed. Several O-rings are similar in size, but will not seal if used in the wrong location.
NOTE: Do not adjust the jam nut while lubricating the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter. The jam nut is threaded to the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter at a preset location.
Apply clean engine oil to the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter threads and jam nut.
      1. NOTICE: The high-pressure oil branch tube adapter must be installed at the correct depth to prevent high-pressure oil leaks.
NOTE: If the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter cannot be threaded on completely, then back the jam nut off one or two turns and complete threading the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter into the high-pressure oil pump.
Install the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter into the high-pressure oil pump by threading it 5 complete turns to set the proper depth and orientation.
        1. NOTICE: To prevent engine damage, the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter oil outlet hole must be facing down.
Install the holding tool using the supplied plastic bolts and wing nuts to align and position the jam nut fitting.
          1. NOTE: The torque specifications for this step are calculated for use with a crowfoot adapter.
Tighten the jam nut with a crowfoot adapter and torque wrench.
            • Tighten to 66 Nm (49 lb-ft).
            1. Remove and discard the plastic bolts, wing nuts and holding tool.
            1. NOTE: In most cases there is enough clearance in the high-pressure oil branch tube for proper hole alignment. If unable to align the holes, the high-pressure oil branch tube will have to be replaced. For additional information, refer to High Pressure Oil Branch Tube in this section.
Install the high-pressure oil pump. For additional information, refer to Oil Pump in this section.

            Thanks for the info Mike.

I actually had instructions that came with the kit but I somehow misplaced them. I could be wrong but I thought for sure that the instructions that came in the bag said something about backing off the jam nut 1/4 turn after it was torqued. Am I wrong on that?

Isn't there an update to this about torquing the jam nut and backing out quarter turn?
I don't see this updated info in the above WSM.

not that I have seen. if the jam not is loose then the o-ring wont seal.

the first torquing is for the sealing of the o-ring then the quarter turn back out is to get proper alignment of the adapter then a final re-torque to 49lbs.

            That's what I heard anyway.
