RAS and Hellwig Pictures...Please
The RAS IS essentially another spring...so you could do the add a leaf or you could even swap in a set of F250/350 springs and basically get the same effect...there are a few ways to skin this cat...the RAS was how I chose to.
Some have gone air bags to add rear capacity...BUT the air bags (IMO) do nothing to assist us Ex owners with the phenom of axle wrapping due to the weaker leaf springs. The RAS or F250/350 springs or even maybe the add a leaf will give you added resistance against the leaf springs wrapping under heavy loads of the trailer PUSHING on the rear of our Ex's. Remember Ford put that stock lowest forward shooting spring to counter axle wrapping...BUT it only works in one direction...under acceleration...so for those of us that tow...1100+#'s of tongue weight PUSHING on the rear of the Ex in a dynamic situation...creates some undesirable effects that Ford did not address...so something had to be done for me to be satisfied with the towing experience...
When I was shopping (back in 2007) the Rancho's were $450 delivered to my door...no bull...I got my Bilsteins for $250 to my door...it made an easy decision for me as you can imagine.
Joe.
