I had been waiting for the right time to buy, a couple weeks ago
we took a weekend trip and my wife finally agreed new shocks
would be ok!
My response: "Yes, you are right honey"
RS9000 $87 each @ Rockauto, plus 5% discount, plus $100 debit card rebate: final cost about $242
(there was also another offer: buy 3, get 1 free)
Hellwig, online @ Amazon.com $211, with free shipping.
I'll evaluate the improvement and then decide on the RAS.
I'm "concerned" the RAS will raise the rear end, and then I"ll
have to raise the front end (not necessarily a bad thing)
How heavy of a trailer are you pulling again and what is the tongue weight?
I haven't had much concern about the slight "rake" and I do mean SLIGHT the RAS gave me initially...the added benefit each time I drop that 1100+ #'s of tongue weight on the rear of the Ex...I know why I did the RAS!
I think you will also notice a big difference in overall handling just from the Hellwig...
Thanks! I'm looking forward to a different ride.
Even in it's present form, my Ex drives way better than my '97 Tahoe did.
My Tahoe wandered terrible (or maybe it wandered well?),
so I'm glad my Ex doesn't do it. When I was shopping for the Ex I found
some that wandered a LOT - like a boat @ idle speed in a Manatee zone!
I don't tow much beyond an occasional rental trailer, friend's 20-25' boat,
or a car on a trailer.
As long as the RAS lift is less than 1" or so I'd have no concern with it.
Jim:
It is the RAS that will raise the rear a bit.
Thanks for the offer, Did my wife put you up to that?! LOL
My EX is 4WD so is already higher that the 2WD version (front and rar). Even so, I really like my RAS (just installed the newest version to replace the Mark 2's I had on before. They sitting in my garage now).
It raised the rear 1 1/2 inch ( same as the Mark 2 version). Hardly noticable but really makes it handle and ride much better when not towing. I also have the Hella sway bar whihc is an awesome addtion. You will really like it.
Would now be a bad time to tell you I ordered a set of 4 Rancho 9000xl's for $317.95 from 4wheelonline? Still get the $100 debit card, so $218 in the end. I actually had them in my cart at RockAuto as I was buying some hoses, plugs, and other misc stuff. Did one last search on this forum and found the link to 4wheelonline.
Got mine from 4wheelonline too. Mine came with the myride and I am tempted to ****** it out due to the fact its leaking somewhere I can't find. I should have taken Thea 100 dollar rebate

I never really was interested in the Myride. There is enough stuff
already underneath (or needing to be added: CCV reroute) I didn't
want to bother with that.
wife wanted an ipod dock for the excer. room and bet buy had the logitech s715 for $159....
it found it online for $99 while I was on the best buy website....
I did these mods in the following order: Ranchos, Roadmaster Active Suspension, and finally the Hellwig rear sway bar. The Hellwig had the most immediate and dramatic effect on steering. It straightened out my X on the straights and in turns like nothing I've ever seen. That was the best $211 (Amazon!) I ever spent on a vehicle.
By the way, I think the RAS raised my rearend about an inch. No big deal.
Also, I see some guys here mentioned the Rancho Myride system. I have it installed and actually really like it a lot. I drive around with the fronts at 6 and the rears at 8. Whenever I transition to offroad or a washboard dirt road, I switch to 1 and 1, and it makes a world of difference.
Hey guy what is the RAS ??? DAH is it rancho adjustable shocks Thinking of the 9000 maybe 5000 for my 2004 f 250 ext cab xlt 4 wd ? What you all think ?
Sorry, RAS is the Roadmaster Active Suspension. Do a quick Google search and you'll find some good stuff on it. I found some of the Youtube videos about the RAS to be pretty good.
I was in pepboys today and they have the Ranchos on the shelf for $101 each. Then I was talking to the guy in the performance department (yes, this store has a special section for performance) and he told me there was no such thing as the wireless adjustment kit. Then had to eat crow once i found it in his own catalog and showed it to him.
So 4 ranchos (apparently 2 sizes, fronts are different than backs) are approx $400. The wirleless kit with compressor, lines, etc, the whole kit and kaboodle was another $289. Then with installation he said they could handle it from soup to nuts for $1200.
So yeah, like I'd like I'd let them touch my bicycle... not.
Anyways, where is the best place for pricing, etc? Still 4wheelonline? How about for the wireless?
Anyone here in South Florida and like helpin out? I buy beer! And Pizza!
