Confused about trim levels

I have a '78 Supercab 4x4, trying to figure out what trim it is. The glovebox door says Ranger on it, and it looks like the cowl emblems had the F150 Ranger emblems on them. But now on Wikipedia it says the regular Ranger's had round headlights, mine has square. Also the chrome trim down the side is like none other I've seen, instead of "engulfing" the front side marker, it stops about two inches behind it. Don't have the lower racetrack. It has chrome wheel well trim and has pinstripes going down the sides parallel to the upper racetrack trim.

Don't believe everything Wikipedia states. 78 was a mid year change for the headlights and the trim you describe was used on a Ranger model. The Ranger XLT got the moulding with the rubber insert.

Alright cool, so it is a Ranger. I know Wikipedia isn't always reliable but their ford trucks page looked pretty good and was all I could find on the subject.

Thats exactly right. For academic standards Wikapedia is not a credible resource because anyone can put information on there without citations or resources.

Information highway

You can get mis led on this sight also dont take for granted the first answer you read and like read them all and look at the number of post they have input you have people answering your questions that a few weeks earlier were asking question about there new find that only had 75000 original miles found in a barn that burns a quart of oil a day knocks and smokes and they are asking what could be wrong with my find. Use your head and your gut instinct and remember there is a lot of people out there dads grampas uncles brothers friends that dont have computers that can answer your questions also. But for sure this is a great sight for our blue oval info.

In 1978 Only Custom level trucks had round headlights

Ranger trim received Rectangular Headlights

In 1979 all light trucks had RECTANGULAR headlights.

There are no square ones on these trucks

the aal did a fact check on wikipedia versus encyclopedias and found that wikipedia was factually correct more often than the encyclopedias. It was by several percentage points- a pretty substantial margin.

Furthermore, anyone who reads stuff on a user generated wiki should always check the sources. If something isn't cited then its suspect.

May be off on a tangent, but I feel its a relevant one.
