converting from points to electronic distributor

1968 390 2wd

I know I have seen info on doing this on here but now I can not find it.

I have a rebuilt 390 distributor from a 1976 390 and want to put it in my 68. I have the blue plug box/mod (Sticking with ford products - I am not racing and want to stay on the low end as far as $$ + want the ease of finding replacement parts)

Thanks in advance

Here's the wiring diagram:

You can find the intermediate harness on about any 75-early 80s truck in the junkyard if you don't want to make it up yourself.
I would also recommend replacing the resistance wire (pink wire from ignition switch) with a regular wire and running a coil from a late 80s truck with TFI. It's a smaller coil, but produces a much hotter spark, just don't leave you key on without the engine running or it will melt the epoxy out of the box.

its super easy and i got everything including the distributor from the wrecking yard . i got a reman distributor for $47 and used the wrecking yard dist, as core . its the best thing i have done it starts first time every time and runs like a rape ape down the road ! and it didn't cost a lot of money . i use to run the petroinc stuff until it gave up the ghost an i couldn't afford to replace. im sold on finding upgrades that don't cost a lot of money

what ballast resistor are you referring too because i was thinking on setting up a 12v relay to run the coil and mod. but if i need a ballast resistor to run to the coil i get one. i seen this wire at autozone will this work running off of a 12v relay to the coil Duralast/Ballast Resistor (F796) | 1976 Ford F150 1/2 ton P/U 2WD 8 Cylinders M 6.4L 4BL OHV | AutoZone.com

If you use the stock style coil, you will need a resistor of some sort. You can use the stock pink wire that powers the stock coil, it's a resistor wire.
If you use a later "E" coil from an EEC-III or EEC-IV equipped truck, then you can run a full 12v through it with no concerns. Just don't leave the key on with the engine off or you will melt the epoxy out of the ignition module.
Aside from one incident, I successfully ran an E coil with a DSII module and relay for a little over a year before converting further to a DUI system.
