External Oil Coolers

Who is using an external oil cooler on their 6.0? What EOT/ECT temp differential are you seeing idling, driving and towing? Is your fan running more often than with the oem oil cooler?

Does the temp spread even matter with an external cooler? Just curious. I would think it doesn't, since the temp spread is no longer an indicator of internal oil cooler health, but external oil cooler efficiency. Oil temps would then just be looked at as an absolute value. Coolant temps should still be regulated as usual, and maybe be a little better without the heat load from the oil cooler applied to the coolant, letting the fan run less often. Note that I have no direct experience with this situation and can't answer your question, just thinking out loud.

The fan may or may not run less often. The PCM is not just looking at coolant temperature for the fan to operate.

No doubt, there will be less heat load on the coolant. I know a few folks on other forums using the external cooler. I will go check who specifically it is and let you know.

BTW - Check out the thread "testing". An International tech (adamtheman16) states that the Internationals (using Texaco ELC coolant) just dont see oil cooler failures.
