Belt Tensioner

Im getting ready to replace my belt tensioner, idler pulley and belt. One of them is squeaking but im just going to replace them both since they have 124k on them.

Any tips or tricks to make this any easier? Would taking the fan off help? If i do take the fan off i will probably take the plastic stator off while i was in there as well.

I am going to be driving my truck to Arizona from here in Missouri ,the second week of August, i made a list of things to check/change before the trip, any suggestions on that aspect??

Thanks for all the help!!

No need to remove the fan, less you have to do is better and plastic likes to break. Just take your time. Good fuel filters and fresh oil for a long trip, also kick the tires, with this heat wave good tires are essential.

I would imagine he's refering to the plastic nipple for the small hose that runs from the radiator to the degas bottle

So how do people tend to break them?

I want to know so I can avoid it next time under the hood. So far I've been lucky, I suppose.

Leaning on it or the hose trying to reach something else, usually.
