The factory components probably don't have separate crossovers. I would bet the large speaker is full range without the highs filtered out and the tweeters just have a capacitor (bass blocker) in line. Similar to how coaxials are wired, but with the tweeter mounted separate.
I am about to replace all the speakers in my '11 F250 CC.
It has the factory set up that includes component audio (4 door speakers and 4 stand alone tweeters, and the factory subwoofer.)
I am going to replace them all, remove the factory subwoofer and add my own subs with an amp.
My questions are:
Where are the factory crossovers for the door speakers?
Where is the factory crossover for the subwoofer?
Where is the factory amp?
If I add my own crossovers and amplifier, do I need to dis-able the factory amplifier and by-pass the factory crossovers?
I'm hoping I can just figure it out once I get started but just throwing this out there in case anybody already knows the solutions.
Thanks for any help!
There is an amp under the dash (left side of the head unit behind the 4X4 selector switch). Not sure if this is for the speakers and/or the sub. If that isn't it, than the amp is in the sub enclosure. Quick way to tell would be to see how many wires are going into the subwoofer enclosure. If it is more than 2 than the amp is in the enclosure. I believe the audio signals are line out from the head unit to the amp mentioned above so my guess would be the crossovers are built into the amp and not on the speakers. It will be easy enough to tell when you pull the door panels and remove the speakers.....
Do you have a picture of the factory sub enclosure? Also, what kind of enclosure are you going with. I don't have the upgraded stereo system mainly cause no factory radio has lasted longer than 6 months in any of my vehicles. I'm about to start the journey of ripping mine out and starting from scratch. My only dilemma is the sub enclosure, just not sure what I want to do there.
The sub amp you have now is under the back seat mounted on the outside of the enclosure. I'm not too keen on MTX amps, my son has three and one failed within a year.
Edit: Well I assumed the amp was ON the enclosure. I checked mine and it's not. I don't know where it is.
I've always been partial to JL Audio for my amps unless I could find an old Pioneer GMH-50 which I haven't seen in 17 years. I may have to try to experiment with some things before I commit but it should be fun!

If I upgrade mine, I'll probably go with Pioneer Digitals. It's all digital anyway, no more analog for cars.
