Is the check valve or anti drainback valve accessible from the pan? In the valve body?? I've tried searching and can't find info on where it's at or how to access it.
Thanks!
Converter drain back in a C6 could mean that you have pump issues. If you are sure that you in fact have a converter drain back condition you can install a kit from Ford Part # FOTZ-7D174-A Its an anti-drainback kit.
To tell if you have a drain back issue check the fluid level with the engine off after driving the vehicle , note the level on the stick. Then after it has sat for enough time to get the delay check the fluid level again with the engine off. If the fluid level is higher than the first level check then the converter has drained into the pan. If the fluid level is about the same then I would suspect hardened seals in the forward drum.
It's definitely draining, fluid rises while parked and then leaks from the dipstick tube a little. In the morning it takes about 15-20 seconds (haven't actually timed it) running before it feels full and will pull strongly when shifted into gear. If I start it and immediately put it in gear it does nearly nothing then slowly gets stronger. I'm near certain it's converter slip, not clutch/band slippage. If parked 30 or so minutes and drop right into gear it pulls softly and slowly comes to full normal pulling after about 5-7 seconds. It acts the same in any gear position. Once filled it has no delay in engaging foreword or reverse.
I'd never heard of this kit, may be my answer! Will it resolve any cause of drainback? Does it install without total disassembly of the trans? Happen to know a price of the kit?
Thank you so much!
Oscar
BTW-I have a '78 727 torqueflite with the same problem. If you have a solution to it that'd be awesome!
I found this information in our C6 data base, I have read a few posts in there about people using this kit on C6's and even on the TF8 (727). But after looking at the description of this kit it appears to be for the E40D. The E40D has a larger fitting at the case compared to the C6 and TF8 so I am unsure if it will work or not, I am just going off what I have read, I have never used this kit myself.
I attached the info I found on this, so look it over and see if it is something you can use. I called my parts supplier about this kit and his part number was the same and it was listed in his C6 and E40D section, he had never sold one but he told me they are about $8.00 my cost. It is just a fitting that has a check ball and spring to prevent drain back through the cooler lines. My experience on converter drain back has always been a pump issue, like worn bushings or worn gears or the check valve itself that is located in the pump stator.
The TF8(727) transmission wont fill the converter in park, that is why they want you to check the fluid level in neutral. Transgo and Superior make a shift kit for this transmission that includes a manual valve for the valvebody. This valve will allow the converter to fill in park and is what is used in cases of converter drain back for this trans.
Thank you so much for the kit info and about the 727 converter fill!!! It always seemed strange to me that it didn't fill in park, I thought there may have been two things wrong with it. I assume that fitting would go on the fluid 'out' line for any trans?-happen to know?

The fitting is designed to fit on the return line to the transmission from the radiator. That would be the line towards the rear of the transmission, its the same for both the C6 and the 727.
can anyone let on to where you can purchase this valve kit? i have searched the web for several hours now to no avail. searched several FORD parts website with no info on this at all. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
