My 99 XLT has the overhead console with the rear HVAC controls and little compartments in it but right in the front, there is panel with 'Expedition' on it. This is obviously where the trip computer/compass/outside temp thingy (of whatever it was that Ford puts there) goes.
What I want to know is is my truck already wired for the unit that slips in there and if I found one somewhere, could I just plop it in and plug it in and it would work?
I am looking into the same thing for my '97 Expy. My '94 EB Bronco has the auto-dimming mirror and the compass/temp gauge, and we wish we had it in our Expy. I haven't gotten very far yet, but I will post if I find anything out.
A user on another forum told me yesterday that he removed his overhead console and found that the wire was indeed there, but plugged into a dummy receptacle in the mold of the overhead unit. I am hoping to find that mine is that way, because I sure miss my unit from my old Explorer.
No luck. I took my console down today to install my hands-free mic and there was no connection for the temp/compass unit. I would bet that since it is a low power consuming unit I could tap 12VDC from something up there though. Would then just need to run the outside temp sensor. Hmm. . . .
