Adding Trip Computer/Signal Mirrors
I'm new to the forum but I really like it so far. It seems really cool. You guys are pretty active posters. Thats good!
I just bought a 1997 Expedition and it pretty much has everything except the signal mirrors and the trip computer in the overhead console.
Is it possible to add the trip computer? Is the wiring already there? I would like to know if it is plug and play or do I need to wire it up? What would be involved?
The signal mirrors...same thing...is the wiring already there? Or do they need to be wired up on a truck that didnt come with it already? If it needs to be wired up, do I need the whole mirror housing or just the glass part? How hard would this be?
Has anyone done the above?
Thanks for your input! I really appreciate any help that you can give me.

The best bet would be to do a search within this forum by clicking on the search toolbar above these messages and then click on advanced search. Type in 'mirrors', etc to look exactly what you want. Make sure you go to the Expedition & Navigator forum for the place you want to search from.
There are two types of signal mirrors available. The newer trucks seem to have a separate bulb and lens outboard of the mirror in the mirror cap. The trouble with these is that they draw a fair amount of current and I'm not sure if you can just add the load to your existing flasher circuit. I would recommend against this type unless you can learn more.
The other type has LED's in the mirror itself. LEDs cost more, but draw less current. These mirror faces are available as kits from Ford or Muth Mirror Systems, and although the installation is a little tricky, it involves only the doors for most recent trucks.
