My brother in law's truck had a new egr and oil cooler last week. Now after idling for a couple of minutes, and then accelerating, it will leave about a 25 foot trail of blue smoke. Any suggestions?
Mine does this on start up. I do not know why. I was thinking coked egr valve and or turbo. Or maybe having issues with egr cooler/ oil cooler. Maybe not if your bro inlaw had his stuff replaced
Any codes? Any sluggishness or other performance issues?
It could be oil being burned but it also could be insufficient fuel.
Things like loose or plugged injectors, worn or leaking injector o-rings, or as you mentioned the turbo oil seal (oil consumption). Also PCM inputs such as MAP, ICP sensors, etc. can cause smoke that can look blueish.

No codes, no peformance issues. The problem just started after the coolers were replaced. I'm leaning towards turbo oil because there are only so many parts that are removed in the cooler replacement. There was a lot of oil in the coolant. I am trying to figure out how residual oil from the coolant path could be burned off now. The degas bottle was replaced but there are signs of oil in the new one so it will be flushed with simple green again tomorrow.
