Truck's running "bumpy"

I just bought a 95 F150 4x4 with the 302. Not sure what the deal is. When I have my foot on the gas it feels like the whole truck shudders and every once in a while it randomly feels like I'm hitting a bump in the road or tapping the breaks real hard. It's hard to explain. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. It stops shuddering when I take my foot off the gas pedal. It seems to lose power going up any kind of an incline on the highway too. I have to floor it in order to stop decelerating. There's no check engine light iluminated so I'm thinking it's not engine related. U-joints? Tranny? I notice it a lot more on the highway rather than residential roads.

Is this truck equipped with an automatic transmission?? If so-does this occur when the truck is in first and second gear?

it is an automatic. I haven't noticed it doing it in first and second. It's mostly on the highway that I notice it. so it's in overdrive. It has 144k miles.

I wonder if it is caused by the lock up feature of the torque converter. Try taking it out of overdrive on the highway and see if it does it.

Check for DTCs/Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the computer .

These trucks have lock up torque converters. And if your converter is locking and unlocking-it should stay locked on the highway at constant speed-it could cause the problem you have described. And I believe that the converters should lock only at steady speed/load on the highway-and only in third and fourth gear.

If the truck is underload-it could be shifting from overdrive to direct constantly at a given speed. Especially when driving into the wind and when going up hills. If so-try driving in third/direct and see if this trouble still occurs.

so I turned off the overdrive and that fixes the shuddering so I believe the torque converter is messed up but I haven't figured out what the hiccuping is. It still randomley hiccups while driving and at stops. I don't know if it has a miss or something. Once the truck is warmed up it runs great other than the annoying hiccup. When the truck is cold it runs like crap. Give it gas and it feels like it's choking. It doesn't stall though. It just jerks a little bit. Think a simple tune up would fix this? Thanks for all your help!
