Have been looking all morning for someone that has my problem (Not found). I have a 1999 F-150 4X4 that experiences a very quick lite shudder. It feels like the infamous torque convrter shudder, but this only does it when turning out onto a highway at a 4 way stop. If the wheels are straight it hardly ever does it. but if the wheels are turned and going up a small incline pulling out onto a road it will last longer may 2 seconds.
There is a metal tag on one or the bolts on the back of the rear differential. It will have numbers stamped on it. On your 4x4 it will have "3.55 975" if it is non-limited slip. It will have "3L55 975" if it is limited slip (look for the "L"). The shudder or chatter you are feeling when accelerating and turning from a stop is most likely from the clutches that are in the "limited slip" option. I drained my diff by removing the back cover then replaced the fluid with Mobile1 Full Synthetic 75W140 and don't forget to add a 4oz bottle of Motocraft Friction Modifier. That ended the chatter at 70,000mi but now at 95,000mi it is starting again so this time I might need a new clutch pack Good Luck with yours.

If you think it is your torque convertor giving you the shudder you might try Dr. Trannys Shudder Fix. It is made by Lubegard. Great stuff. My 98 F150 was shuddering and I put a tube of this stuff in it and the shudder is gone and the tranny shifts much better. I just had the transmission serviced a couple months ago and the shudder seemed to get worse. I got mine through EBay.
It is your rear end. Mine does the same thing. The limited slip is just engaging, which isn't necesarrily a good thing. I just live with mine and hope it lasts.
Friction modifier will fix a LS axle shudder (did for me anyways), as for pouring lucas in yer tranny, my advise is to flush it out, it killed the tranny in my old truck, most modern ford trannies auto and manual alike only should be fillled with mercon fluid and nothing else.
I got this too late, I already poured it in. It has seemed to help somewhat. I guess I will wait and see. I have got 300 miles since I put lucas in. Maybe it wont fall apart on me!!
