I just had my head gaskets done. I am presently working on a list of mods and the dieselsite coolant filter is on it. I noticed the ford tech put VC-9 in my coolant. I asked how long until I bring it back for a flush. He said
Apparently they don't ask their customers to come back for a flush after adding the VC-9. Now I'm confused. I thought it was just to help clean out the system and then you flush it out with distilled water until it runs clean? Then re-fill with ford gold.
I have already driven about 200 KM on the VC-9. If it needs to be flushed can I still drive for a few weeks on it until I get my filter in and am ready for a full flush etc.?
I recently flushed my cooling system with VC-9, it clearly states on the label to use only as a flushing agent and drain and flush with water to make sure you clean the excess VC-9 from system before adding water and coolant.
i recently flushed mine too put the vc-9 in and drove for 30 or so miles then flushed it out. vc-9 is a iron cleaner. if it were me i would flush it out asap i dont know but it could eat the seals and gaskets ,hoses out if left in for too long,
Dealer item only here at 26 bucks a qt. You need two qts. It is a flush only, not an additive. If your dealer doesn't know that then get out of Dodge ASAP.
I looked online for it and never found a straight answer, but guessed it was a Ford item only. Once I asked the parts Guy and he had no clue, I remembered a 2G estimate for a bedplate/etc repair I got for some spilled oil that I forgotten to clean off the engine after a oil change. Guess I'll drive a little farther to have Ford do a repair before I let that dealership touch my X.
Well my coolant filter kit is still in transit. So I've been running with the VC9 in the system for about 1,000 km. Even right after I had the head gaskets done and erg delete with new oil cooler I was very attentive to my ect and eot delta. I noticed that I could get up to 15 in difference often. Is it because these 6.0l cool well? I often drive about 75 mph and was wondering if the wind direction or speed of travel could make the truck able to cool more? Should I be concerned about a frequent 15 delta with a new oil cooler? Is it because the VC9 is breaking down stuff and that is causing a new oil cooler to clog already after 2 weeks?
I would call the dealership and ask if they flushed the cooling system after they used the VC-9. The VC-9 is suppose to be flushed out so I cant see the dealership just adding it to your coolant without flushing it out after.
Or if you are going to be installing a coolant filter I would buy enough coolant to do a flush before you install the filter. That way you know it was done right and you are starting with a clean cooling system.
Just wondering if some of you have ever had an oil cooler clog up that quickly? It's it even possible?
I put my coolant filter kit on my truck, new, when it had 2,000 miles approx. At 40,000 miles I had to have the oil/egr coolers changed. My system was extremely dirty however. Plugged the 1st filter at 300 miles and the 2nd at 1,000. Some trucks have been extremely clean. It seems to be a luck of the draw. I was not trying to be a smart a**. Just seemed like you were asking for a guarantee.
