I have a 2004 Ford F150, my owners manual states that it needs Motorcraft Gold Coolant VC-7-A.
So the only store that carries Motorcraft in my entire town had Motorcraft Gold VC-7-B, and they say they sell a lot of it, but have never sold the VC-7-A....
Ford f150 is a very common truck... I'm like 100% sure I need the Motorcraft Gold Coolant VC-7-A.... I'm really confused right now.
I just went out and bought the VC-7-B, because I drove out to it and didn't want to leave there with nothing. Will the VC-7-B be the same as the VC-7-A? Will it hurt anything or bring down the performance. No idea about any of this stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
Found this on the net doing a google search of "motorcraft premium gold engine coolant vc-7-a equivalent"
There's a bunch that will meet the Ford WSS-M97B51-A1 "gold" spec and be compatible.
Valvoline/Zerex supplies the very same G-05 coolant used in Ford as factory fill "gold" to Daimler Chrysler (Mopar), Mercedes Benz, and John Deere (CoolGard). They just dye it a different color. So you could go to any one of those dealers for the same stuff to
I appreciate the help, its just I already bought 2 gallons of this VC-7-B. I just was wondering if there is any difference in this and the VC-7-A. The topic hasn't been brought up ANYWHERE on the internet,
Use the stuff you have. It's just an updated spec from the 7A that your 2004 manual shows. Time & technology advance while your manual stays the same. Refer to this chart:http://www.motorcraft.com/servlet/Bl...lob&blobkey=id
So... Ford suggests it's own special coolant. What happens if you use standard "for all systems" name brand anti-freeze, instead of the Ford stuff?
Now, I'm starting to get worried.

As long as you check the back of the container & it meets the appropriate Ford spec for your vehicle, you are safe. Under Federal law, they CANNOT require you to buy replacement parts from Ford.

Thanks. Appreciate the info. Seems the older I get, the more I worry about simple things that I shouldn't probably worry about. Gave ya a rep point for the info. Take care.
