Don't use any sealant at all if you want, however it is against the advise of the Ford Service manuals.
The question was about the slider glass with a frame around it,not the solid fixed glass. A lot of them are installed after the trucks were bought new by the owners or other glass shops. The solid fixed glass ones I have removed normally have a little sealent , but not much . Sometimes they are sealed completly around with silicon,which means you can't get it out without damage to the seal. I won't try to out guess ford motor company . I just know I have not had any problems with water, maybe it's because we only have a yearly average of 10 to 20 percent of humidity here where I live. I would seal only for a little more security ,not water.
