How common is it for stock intercoolers to let go? Diagnosing a power loss issue on a friend's 03 and he said he was in the throttle and he heard a pop with a huge loss in power. Had a couple mins today to look at it and inspected all the cac boots and just thought I would give the EGR valve a look and it checked out great. Didn't have time to look at the intercooler and have to believe that there is a huge boost leak somewhere. So do the stock units fail from time to time because I have never heard of one failing? Anyone have any experience with them failing?
Well the truck is an 03 with only 20k miles. So, the guy is extremely lucky that he hasn't had stuck turbo vanes yet. The truck turns 22.5 Alcoas and sits 18" at ride height. It could have overboosted.
either the right or left side tank will blow off. pull back the rubber sheild that covers it and look at it. most have been easy to spot with an o-ring hanging out of the cac.
