Ok so it looks like the freezing was a fluke. It has not happened again all day today.

And some pictures.

Where I mounted it. I used the supplied universal windshield mount.

Just started the truck.

Driving.

Finally up to operating temps.

I hooked up the Insight CTS yesterday, and got to use it a bit today during some errands I had to run.

So far it has been great! It starts up on it's own when I turn the truck on and shuts off by itself when I turn the truck off. It was very easy to set up what parameters I wanted it to display, and set up alerts. I will post pictures as soon as I have the opportunity to take some today.

So some questions.

What is too hot for EGT's? Engine oil temp? Engine coolant temp? transmission temp?

Right now I have the alerts set up for 1350 for EGT's, 220 for both oil temp, and coolant temp and 225 for transmission temp. Are those good settings?

So far during my city driving and about 5 miles of highway I am running at about 195-200 for oil temp and coolant temp, and have struggled to get the tranny temp much about 170. Again, that was mostly city driving and empty. Also about 85 degrees outside this morning.

Edit: I did notice that it did not seem to like the remote start. It would come on, but once I went from truck running no key in the ignition to key in the ignition in the "on" position the CTS would freeze up.

220 is a bit low for oil and coolant temps. I'd bump them up to 225 at least. I will hit 220 every time I tow although it's always on long steep grades. The fan kicks in high gear right at about 220. I've seen 230 but that's when the little notification on the dash comes on. I've only seen this once and honestly if I didn't look down to see the milage, I wouldn't have even noticed there was a notification. It's the same green as the other letters on the display. No big red light flashing in your face to warn you.

As far as tranny temps go, you'd be hard pressed to see more than 170 around town. Mine will easily hit 200 when towing.

On your first towing trip see what "normal" is for your truck and your driving style. Make sure to turn the alarms off though, the last thing you want to deal with is a bunch of annoying alarms going off while pulling a steep grade. Once you know what seems right for you, set your thresholds accordingly.

With that said, there seems to be only a few notches in the stock temp gauge. Mine reads normal until about 220. Then it bumps up one notch and the fan kicks on. Normally the fan cools things down in a matter of seconds(30 or so). If it doesn't, the next notch is at 230 and it's about 3/4 of the way to the danger zone. It doesn't seem to have any in-between points.

How many gauges can you display at a time? I'm looking at one for my 6.0L, but I'm really only interested in EOT, ECT, and TFT, plus EGT when the probe is installed (don't make fun of my outdated truck), so I'm hoping I don't have to have 8 things up there when I only care about 4 most of the time.

Don't forget about fuel pressure, one of the most important things to monitor on the 6.0L. That will require a second analog input.

No you don't have to have 8 displayed at a time. I believe you can display 4, 6, or 8.

And this thing still rocks!!!
