Hello, This is my initial visit to this site/forum. I have a trouble code PO40D appear on my scan tool. According to the manuel, this truck engine carries 3 of these particular sensors. Does the e.g.r.t. sensor A circuit high indicate location of the faulty sensor, because the other 2 sensors indicate low and range/performance. The engine will run, but stomping the gas pedal has very little response and the turbo blower responds with only half power. I can get place to place but only slow at the truck's discretion. All 3 sensors are supposedly interchangeable, but location is my problem. Also, my truck is under the 100,000 mile warranty, but is this a wear item or a warranty item? This code stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperture sensor "A" circuit high. All help will be appreciated. Thank-you.
The DTC P040D is the EGR temp sensor A. There is also a EGR Temp sensor B. The 3 sensors you mention in your posts are the EGT is the Exhaust Gas temp sensor and there are 3 of them. The EGR Temp sensor A is located in the Right hand exhaust up-pipe to turbo inlet. EGR Temp sensor B is on the outlet of the vertical EGR cooler. The 3 EGT sensors are pre, in and after the DPF. All temp sensors are covered by emissions warranty. In the worst case, the sensor gets siezed in the pipe. I have had to remove the cab to replace the RH up pipe for sensor siezing or breaking in pipe.
I had the EGT sensor #3 fail on me and I had the same issue, I could drive/tow and get around but the engine did not run the way it's supposed to. I was lucky that it was the easiest one to get at. Sat at the dealer for 20 minutes and was good to go. Good luck.

Hey SR
What is the best way to get to the sensor in the RH uppipe? Can I get to it with hand tools in the campground?
