No progress with the cab since my previous post, but it is completely stripped down to the bare shell. Once the engine is complete and installed back into the chassis, I intend to have the front clip, cab, and bed acid dipped in preparation for immediate bodywork and paint.

Those mirrors were stock custom cab mirrors? Looking for a good used set. Not a fan of the chrome jobbers from LMC

Over the top build and detail! 👌🏽

According to the original Ford literature, the chrome fixed-arm mirror was available for Styleside pickups but only installed as standard equipment on the driver's door of panels, leading me to believe conventional cab pickups did not have standard equipment exterior mirrors. Also optional, was a 5" non-telescoping mirror, a 5" telescoping mirror, or a Western-type adjustable arm mirror (dealer-installed). According to 1984 photos of the truck, it originally had the 5" non-telescoping mirror on the driver-side door (of which I'm replicating).

The Custom Cab option added the following components:
-Striped woven nylon-saran upholstery with gray vinyl bolster and seat facing
-Handsome two-tone instrument panel
-Chrome-trimmed instrument cluster
-White steering wheel with attractive chrome trim ring
-Foam rubber in seat cushion and back
-Attractive two-tone door paint scheme
-Arm rest on left door
-Sound deadener on floor and rear cab panel and insulation on firewall
-Sun visor on right side
-Illuminated cigar-cigarette lighter
-Bright-metal grill and headlight assembly
-Bright-metal windshield reveal molding
-"Custom Cab" emblem on each door
-Matched locks on both doors.

okay next question if you don’t mind. I have a custom cab 4x4 and would like to find the same mirrors you bought. Where did you score yours?

Interesting to see that the letters on the hubcaps are always in the same position in these renderings.

The mirror was purchased a couple of years ago from Obsolete Reliable Parts. At the time, they had two mirrors in stock. The individual I dealt with was Michael Jones, who was very helpful and responsive to my e-mails.

Any photo's of your cab, engine etc to show?
Enjoy all the updates, though few & far in-between, sadly :-(
Hope to see more soon.
Good luck with progress, Pete

Unfortunately, nothing new. On the agenda for the next couple of months:

-Send engine fasteners out for re-plating
-Send timing cover and valley pan out for media blasting
-Finish basic engine assembly and send out to be professionally painted
-Send distributor and NOS parts our for re-build and testing on a distributor machine
-Collect more NOS parts.

Between our family, work, and helping a family member finish a 2-1/2-year frame-on restoration of a 1973 Nova, truck work has been rather limited. Hoping to kick this project into high gear this summer. Will post progress photos along the way.

Yes! I dearly apologize for the very delayed reply. The project is moving slowly, but faster than ever (in between family events, post-retirement work, and other car projects). Several small (and very time-consuming) miscellaneous items completed since the previous post.

-Powder coated good original and NOS valve cover with a powder exactly matching the paint of the NOS item
-Powder coated original oil pan and external oil pump pickup tube (for durability against road debris)
-Powder coated engine fan and road draft tube
-Set cold valve lash and installed valve covers with new gaskets, grommets, and re-plated original lock nuts
-Tumbled/stripped and re-plated all original engine exterior hardware in zinc, cadmium, and block phosphate per original
-Powder coated brake pedal, clutch pedal, brake pedal box and brackets
-Powder coated radiator core-to-hood seal attachment
-Powder coated cab footwell air vent grills and fresh air heater blank cover
-Cleaned and hydro-blasted distributor housing
-Hydro-blasted oil pan interior, oil pump pickup housing, valley pan, and front timing cover
-Rebuilt/restored water pump with new bearings and seal
-Collected more NOS parts

With all the engine attaching parts restored (minus exhaust manifolds), final engine assembly is well underway. Upon assembly, the engine (minus powder coated oil pan and valve covers) will be professionally painted before the final attaching items are installed (wire harness, distributor, etc.)

UPCOMING:

-Disassemble NOS oil pump, clean, and assemble
-Complete engine assembly and paint
-Send original exhaust manifolds out for peening and ceramic coating (in cast iron finish)
-Send remaining exterior chrome out for re-plate
-Disassemble transmission for rebuild
-Send distributor out for bushing replacement, assembly, and calibration on a distributor machine
