Exhaust Thread

Haven't seen any exhaust threads around here yet.

Post pics and specs of your exhaust. I was thinking about getting a Stang H pipe system and fabbin up an easy dual Flow 40's.

Stock front cat, Magnaflow rear cat, 2.5" pipe that splits into duals into 3.5" stainless steel rolled edge slant cut tips. No muffler.

You're kidding, right?

There have to a hundred exhaust threads... all the same questions... all the same arguments...

Lots of good advice...

And lots of knucklehead stuff...

Like "how do I make my 300 sound big and mean?" or "how can I make my exhaust pop-n-crackle like my buddy's?"

And I read one more reply about how so-and-so doesn't run cat's I am gonna puke.

If your state requires them, they have to be there.

Period.

And more often than not the truck will run like chit without it unless you mess with the sensors and the computer.

My .02

Truck will not run worse without cats. You don't have to mess with anything.

I run ford motorsports shorty headers, stock lightning midpipe, and a borla DI/DO muffler dumped.

Another exhaust thread?

This is maybe a bit off topic but refresh my memory here-if there is no input from the O2 sensor, won't the vehicle remain in "Open Loop" state and eventually illuminate the CEL?

As far as loud pipes go, use long tube headers, dump them to pipes that are the same size as the collector. Bring both out just in front of the right rear tire ala NASCAR. use a 2" 'H' pipe right behind the bellhousing for more torque. Use NO mufflers or cats. Can't get any louder than that without just ditching the entire exhaust system.

I ran that system on a '61 Galaxie with a 390/4 speed that was built. It was OK for cruising and it would roar (literally) when you got on it. Just cruising up my street set off car alarms. It did require rejetting and timing/plug range adjustments.

My 0.02 USD worth.

Oxygen sensor isn't in the cat on our pickups.

I have a set of Hedman shorty headers hooked to 2.25" pipe that goes to a dual in/out performance muffler and then to each bed corner into 3" stainless tips that stick out the bed corners at 45 degree angles.

....You don't remove the O2 sensor you just put it in or right after the collector , the H pipe is good but you need some kind of muffler to control the noise...

I run Pacesetter long tube headers reduced to 2.5" dual exhaust with a H pipe at the trans tail shaft, I put my o2 sensor in the center of the h pipe. Then just 2.5" duals out the back with 18" x 4" tips angled out at each corner of the bumper. I will try to get a video. Its loud when you want it to be. I noticed a lot smoother power band throughout the entire rpms, as before I could feel the toque down low but it lacked top end.

well when my o2 sensor went out it didnt throw a code for the CEL, it just started running rich. and idk what you have but on any truck i have ever seen, im still young and looking mind you, the o2 sensor was at the collector or just behind it, not on or in the cat, and i had a 3.slow v6 in my ranger and i gutted the cat, much much better than it ever wanted it to be, not to mention it sounded like a tank after that, and my 87 5.0 hasn't had a cat on the entire system for a very very long time. but i can get away with that down here there is no emissions testing
oh and 0.02 USD worth aint worth very much these days, and i wasnt takein a jab at you

i know i had a thread about it a few days ago. i think its back on page 8 or 9 now though. i never did get a straight answer for what i was looking for. im wanting to know if theirs a set up that will allow me to get better gas mileage? i want dual pipes coming out behind each wheel at 45 degree angles as well. but my questions are

cats or no cats?
true duals?
SI/DO?
what size pipe?

theirs relaly not much i wanna do to my truck right now but i was ready for an exhaust upgrade the day i drove it off the used car lot. its just too quiet for me. im wanting some flowmaster super 44's or 40's. just not sure about the above questions. of course the setup would depend on price as well. im 16 and most of paycheck goes toward paying my truck off (got a loan from grandpa) and insurance. not to mention gas for this big hog. 14 mpg aint very good for a stock truck with a 302. especially when my last one got 19-22 mpg even if it was 2wd and stick.

ill be watching this thread closely. i dont mean to hijack it by asking all the above questions but if someone reads it and wants to chime in or message me, that would be great

im 16 too, fully understand the budget, but i have true duals with some sort of glasspack or turbo muffler or somethin. but i just ordered my headers today and i'll keep posted on how much louder it is when i put them on, if i still want it louder them i may just straight pipe it, but i have no cats on mine and if i would stay out of the skinny pedal i would get better MPG's than i do
