as it stands right now, iam torn between the '92 crew or a 96 crew. the 96 has a flatbed on it witch means it was prolly a cab chassis. arent the frames on a cab chassis differnt width than the regular frame, i want to put a regular bed on it.
But here is the thing I know alot of guys who put metal flat beds on there F350s (OBS's) so IDK if there would be a diffrence, plus the 96 would probably accept the engine easily, unless its a gasser that your going to convert to diesel. But if its a diesel you should have NO PORBLEM swapping.
i am leaning toward th 96. the engin is good, and a powerstroke=less work. i know ive read this, but arent the dually axels narrower? what about cab chassis axles?
i am moving back to the New Orleans area this thursday and will do the complete powerstroke swap into the 92 IDI. after iam done, all the IDI stuff and the 97 250 rolling body will be going up for sale. i will post in the classifieds when i am done. there are pics in my garage if you want to see. accessories such as stacks, toolboxes,etc... iam keeping. just a heads up.
Cab and chassis frame = 34" wide, left the factory as an incomplete vehicle, no bed installed, should only be found on an F350 vehicle
Pickup frame = 37.5" wide
A SRW axle and a cab and chassis axle are the same width back plate to back plate.
The narrower frame width sets the spring perches in farther, so you can run dual wheels on them.
A duallie axle, pickup body with fender flares installed from the factory on a 37.5" frame, is 4" wider back plate to back plate than a SRW axle.
Can't remember where I pulled these measurements at on the back plate,
53.75" SRW axle and DRW cab and chassis axle.
57.75" DRW duallie axle.
