2002 Supercrew Service Engine soon light

My service engine soon light stays on. I have had it in and was told it was a sensor. I had it replaced and a couple months later it came back on. I was then told it was fine to drive so don't worry about it. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong except that light drives me nuts. Whats your opinions.

stop by Auto Zone or someone with a code reader. They plug into a connector under the steering wheel and tell you what the computer says is wrong... post the 4 digit code here.

My SES light came on, had the codes read at Autozone and it was an O2 Sensor. I bought the sensor, but hadn't put it in yet. The light came on in my daughters Lancer, it was also an O2 sensor. I decided to break down and buy a code reader. Replacing the sensor in my daughters car appeared to fix the problem. A couple of week later the light came on again, I read the codes (same one popped up) and then cleared the codes. They light has stayed off for a couple months now just by clearing it.

On my F150, I miss-placed the O2 sensor I bought. Decided to clear the codes and see what happens. That was a couple months ago and the light has not come back on.

The $100 bucks I spent on the Code Reader was well worth it. Apparently, in 2 cases, just clearing the codes can fix an SES problem. At least it has for a couple of months so far on 2 vehicles.

There are no codes that say to replace a sensor. You have to understand WHAT the code means and how to proceed from there. Otherwise, you'll waste incredible amounts of time and money replacing parts because you don't dig deep enough.

i have a code reader also. i have got a couple of random codes, that when cleared have not come back for 3-4 months. I get a random code 3-4 times a year. Sometimes the truck just warms up slowly, or shifts odd once, etc, and you get a code. Might not be that big of a deal.

I also get a couple random 02 sensor codes, I replaced them both, and a few months later I got the light again. I read somewhere that my k&N intake can cause this... sure there are plenty of theories. It does only happen when it's really cold out though. The lil code reader/ERASER was a great investment & recommend them also.

My truck is a 1999 F150 with 5.4L V8. I also have the Service Engine light on.

Which Code Reader would your recommend? Are they all able to reset the codes?

In North Carolina, where I live, the vehicle inspection fails when this light is on. I need to fix the problem, or reset the codes to pass inspection. I will buy a Code Reader today if I can determine which one to buy.

Thanks.
