i have a 2002 f150 supercrew. had this problem a few years back. Running rough, felt like it was missing. took it to a shop and i had a bad coil. fixed and everything was ok. about a month ago it did the same thing. took it to autozone and used the code reader. misfire on cylinder 3. And since i did a full service including new plugs 2 weeks prier i figured it was the coil once again. bought a new coil, put it on, service engine soon light went off and all was well. And now Saturday started running rougher than either of the other times. used the code reader and it said misfire on cylinders 4 & 6. bought new coils, put them on and it was still running rough. but not as bad. engine light still on. that was last night. after work to day (still running rough) went to read the codes. same thing, misfire 4 & 6. so i erased the codes. drove it home and it was running great, although i didnt go over 35. here is my question..... did erasing the codes reset something with the computer to make it run better. any insight would be great
I have had and do have this same problem with my current '98 F150. However my problem is in water making its way to the spark plug boot after heavy rains. When you erase the codes the trucks computer starts over again and the system will run well under slow speeds. But if you give it the gas, go fast, or uphill, the misfire is more apparent and the "Service Engine Soon" light will illuminate. Is water leaking around the hood on your truck? I have been fighting this problem for 2 winters now. In the summer the truck runs fine. Normally pulling the spark plug wire off and cleaning/drying out the boot will fix the problem....until it rains again.
