2001 F-150 Supercrew Reverse Problem

I have a 2001 F-150 Supercrew that started acting up . The engine starts to hesitate and jerk (only) when backing up. It runs fine in drive /park/nuetral with my foot on the brake but as soon as I put it in reverse (with foot on brake) or while moving in reverse it acts up. It starts missing, making the truck surge backwards and wants to shut down. As soon as I put it back in drive/park or nuetral it settles down and runs fine. No trouble lights come on. It has 107,000 miles. Any ideas?

no trouble lights, but do you have access to a code reader?
check with your local autoparts store and see if they can do it...or schmooze the local tranny shop.
