what year 550? i know our company f550 rear is huge lol it has those square axles in the rear so springs just bolt right to it with no block and it has a 4.88 rear, it is a 2000 tho
ya, square axles in the newer 450 and 550's . i dont care what year, as long as its 4x4. the 450 and 550 has low gears, since im lookin to go big tires its perfect for me.
you can rupe. just need a couple inches of lift. 2" would cut it. 4" lift clears 40's as long as you stick with 12.5 and get the offset right. you could do a 3" body lift and clear these tires no problem.
i think rupe has that 5th wheel tho can you still do a body lift with that? and yea rupe i just have 3 extra leafs in the front and one or 2 in the rear i cant remember haha and i have 37's and plenty room to spare!
i dont have a 5th wheel set up i dont have a 5th wheel to pull, wish i did though.so how did you do your springs? did you just yard leafs off another spring pack? what else did you have to do?
i did one add-a-leaf in the front and the other 2 were outta a spring pack and the rear 2 were outta a spring pack as well and my rear still sets bout 2" or so higher than the front
We used to always do our lifts with extra springs back in the 80's. Go to the yard and get the spring packs, cut off the eyes and do a double stack lol. Road kinda ruff but it was cheap. Then Ohio got strict on bumper hieghts and put an end to it lol. I was getting busted all the time with my old cj5. Double stack springs and swapped the axles to the bottom of the springs. The cops hated the bumper sticker a buddy had on his toyota that read "If you can't stop smile as you go under".
fortunately if you have a lifted 3/4 or 1 ton truck round here and you dont act stupid with it the only reason a cop will pull you over is to ask what all you have done to your truck
Hey Rupe. If you have a place around that does rearching on springs that would help alot as well. Some of the springs we would get were a little weak so we would take them to Toledo spring and get them rearched and even get them to and a little extra to boost the hieght. Don't know the cost these days but back then it was only about $5 a leaf.
