Tranny cooler upgrade

I want to get a bigger Transmission cooler, and was wondering if it would be better to get the Tru-Cool tranny cooler to add, or can the V10 style trans. cooler be fab'd to work on the OBS?

Both are very similar, I have the Tru-cool and very happy with tranny temps. Get rid the stock cooler, its crap. If you want go more get a 6.0 tranny cooler.

Wink

Here are some pics, to get the idea: the first one with the stock of a SD (the smaller) against the 6.0l (the bigger) and the second the tru-cool MAX (like mine).

Wow the 6.0 is that much bigger? I like the look (and the price) of the Tru-cool. I think I will probably go that route.

You probably didn't get the thermal bypass did you? also did everything come with the kit or did you have to buy extra part or make brackets?

I put the thermal bypass on mine. The only thing extra I had to buy was some 5/16 rubber trans line. Kit comes with 3/8 fittings, truck has 5/16 steel line. The 5/16 rubber line fits over the 3/8 fittings so that's what I did. Some have changed the steel lines on the truck to 3/8. I don't know how much u gain by that besides having the sizes match up correctly. Worked just fine this way, I'm not the only one who did it like this.

I'm another that jumped on the Tru-cool band wagan and very happy that i did (tranny is even happier). Dropped my pulling temps by around 50 degrees.

Our stock cooler is horrible in my opinion.

No I didnt get the thermal bypass, I dont needed it here in my country. And everything came with the kit, I just mod the stock brackets and made some new ones, and thats it.

The advantage of upgrading the 5/16" lines to 3/8" is that you appreciatively move a larger amount of fluid through the larger upgraded cooler and return more cooler fluid to the tranny thus making for a happier tranny and extending it's life.

I spoke with our tranny guru, Mark K. prior to upgrading mine and he indicated that the larger line upgrade was a worth while mod.

Nice, thanks Rog. I'll check out my temps this summer pulling and make the decision then if I want to switch the steel lines.
