As most of you know I bought a 82 f100 over the past weekend but now im sort of wondering what i want to do with it, either fix it up and get rid of my 84 f150 or the other way around. the 84 f150 has a 5 year old motor in it (put it in myself) 4 speed (hydro clutch) bad paint job, sucky wheels and tires by the way the engine is a 351w 4 barrel, this truck has great gearing, tows great, but then i have this 82 f100 300 i6 with a what seems to be wore out 4spd mechanical clutch, with a great body, somewhat good paint needs tune-up and brake work, but has good wheels and tires. what to do? i need some clear headed help.
if the tires and rims from the 82 will fit on the 84 swap them, keep the 84 since its a v8 and has a newer eng, and tows great, use the 82 truck while you restore the 84 with a new paint job, etc , a clutch, tune up and brakes is minor work for the 82 truck, than can be done in a couple of days.
Ford advertised the 1980/83 F100's as a lightduty truck. Some have "swiss cheese" frames, 5 lug, 4.50" bolt circle wheels, different suspension, shocks, springs and brakes than like F150's.
These trucks were not available with 4WD or as a Super Cab, had a limited range of accessories. The largest available V8 was the 302. Some '82/83's have the 255 V8 and the awful 3.8L V6.

I had a 82 ford f150 step side truck, i loved that truck it had the 302 eng, what i did not like about it, is that it had that stupid stepper motor for the carb and variable venturi carb, what a PITA that carb was, except for the carb, I loved that truck, i also went to the ford school on that year truck, and recieved a free Ford Repair manual for it
