Hey guys I was helping my dad remove a stripped out oil plug which a quick lube stripped out (on the inside) well I got it out no problem we were putting a bigger sized plug to make new threads.Well It is now stripped out in the inside and we can't remove it.My question is how do I remove the oil pan? I noticed theres a big beam right over the pan.It is a 2001 ext cab 4.6L F150 any help would be much appreciated. I'm thinking about buying a new pan and plug but removing the one in now seems d@mn near impossible! Thanks in advance! -Ryan
dropping the pan down from the surrounding crank and rods might be a problem. i would condentrate on the plug. how about drilling a 1/4 inch hole thru it, then going 1/8 inch bigger in steps untill you drill it out. THen tap and put a reducer bushing in the hole. Many farm tractor plugs are like 1/2 inch pipe. Could you loctite a 3/4 inch pipe reducer bushing into the new threaded hole and use a 1/2 inch pipe plug for the drain ?

Is removing the pan that difficult? I can buy a new pan for under 100.00 we're having one hell of a time removing the plug,I started to drill into the middle of it but no luck
Your best bet is to go to auto zone and grab a haynes manual for the truck. They are awesome. Looking at mine, taking out the oil pan looks to be a process. Ill give you the steps to do it the way this thing says to tho.
1. Disconnect neg battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Drain all oil.
4. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly and shroud.
5. Attach an engine support fixture to the engine lifting eyes adjacent to the exhaust manifolds.
6. Raise vehicle and support on jackstands, if you havent already.
7. Remove oil dipstick.
8. Raise the engine slightly with the support fixture, watching for interference with any engine compartment components. When the engine is raised about 2 inches, place short lengths of 2X4 lumber between the motor mounts and the crossmember for safety. Remove oil pan mounting bolts. Carefully seperate oil pan from engine block. Dont pry between engine block and oil pan.
And that is just removal. You see how time consuming its going to be? Just drill it out like Steve said.
I probably will have to thanks for the help fellas. It's ashame what ford makes you go through to do things. I drive a modded out Titan I don't run into too many issues :-P
you can get special hard drill bits, carbide bits--- or i have taken a carbide concrete drill bit and sharpened it to a 135 degree angle like a steel cutting bit and used that to drill hard steel... i assume the plug is not hard, just mush steel.
