I didn't read the question..but the egr on an escort is too located under the gas tank behind the poperlater valve just to the side of the grease zerk on the muffler.
Alrighty...so i'm changing my oil tonight and i go to tighten up the drain plug. The thing is stripped out. It goes in and stays there,,but its not tightening. So...looks like i'm going to need a new oil pan. Heres the question. Can you jack up the motor and change the oil pan from the bottom? I'm going to start a poll here but please only put your response on it if you've actually done this....not if you've heard from someone or had a buddy do it.....i'm looking for someone to say...YES...i've done it. Thanks guys.....
You DON'T need to change out the oil pan. I did the same thing to both of my trucks, I think it is an age thing. I had my re-threaded while on the truck. It's just like new again. You'll need a new drain plug, but that's minor.
The mechanic who did it told me I have changed my oil too much as it happened with around 87k on the clock. I laughed and told him "that's like having to much money".
You can also get "self threading" drain plugs from most parts stores. They usually work quite well.
And yes you can change the pan from underneath but I'm not sure it's worth it....unless you have a body lift which I think you do Then it should be quite easy to jack up the engine and trans high enough to pull the pan after you remove the exhaust.
Otherwise I've found it is easier to pull the engine to change the pan.
One day I swore I screwed up the threads on the oil pan. I took a look at the plug and the threads on the plug were gone. All I had to do was replace the plug. I think the plug is softer, and that will strip before the oil pan does. I think the pan is 100 bucks from ford.
if you do change the oil pan it's a real good idea to change the oil pump while you've got it apart. my brother's 93 300 had the oil pan rust through and he replaced it and put a new oil pump in at the same time and now has better oil pressure at startup. no more rattle rattle the first couple seconds of runnin. oil pumps wear and put out less pressure with age. always a good idea to change 'em when you have the oil pan off.
**Pay attention to the prior post. If its off change the pump. Thats a great reminder to us all. If we get into something that takes awhile might as well do some preventative work while you are in there.
I did my '91 from the bottom. Twice, I might add, due to rusting. I don't know if the '95 is the same. Yes, i changed the oil pump while I was in there.
Ya, I've done one on all three motors (300, 302 and 351). Gotten all of them from the bottom. Here in Detroit, it was due to pan rust on all of them. By FAR the 300 was the easiest. Lifted the engine up on all of them, and lifted the trans. on the V-8's. They were in a 96, 87, and 95 respectively.
However, I agree with the others that all you need is a new drain plug. IF it just spins and you cannot pull the old one out, try to slip a screwdriver between the pan and the flange of the drain plug. Put a little pressure on the drain plug with the screwdriver, while turning the pan. Should come out, and you shouldn't need too much pressure on the screwdriver.
